Q & A
with Monroe:
·
What brought you to Alternative Health
and the field/product you’re involved with?
Experiencing the suffering and death of my dear father, uncle and
brother to cancer and it’s treatments; and the icing on the cake was
my diagnosis on October
10th 2002 with cancer.
·
Tell us about yourself in 60 words or
less!
I spent twenty years in the
United States Naval Services, I’ve
traveled in the Bermuda Triangle in a Submarine. A number of those
years in the military were in the medical community as a Medical
Corpsman. Naval Medical Corpsman served on the battle fields of Viet
Nam; some of them were known to split rib cages open and conduct
cardiac massage on the actual heart in attempts to save Marines
lives. Duke University created the very first Physicians Assistants
Degree Program (PA) in the nation, in response to Navy Corpsman. I
graduated from the Wildwood Hospital and Lifestyle Center in 1998; I
have acquired a working knowledge of disease management through
Lifestyle changes. I treated thousands of inmates with traditional
allopathic medicine over a six year period, before being trained in
Natural Remedies.
·
What is the one thing you would most
like us to know about yourself?
The fact that I am now the proud owner of the very first
Virtual Wellness Center.
Imagination has now become reality. Now it is possible to visit a
(virtual / online) Wellness Center, fill out a consent & questionnaire
and receive some of the most cutting edge Health Care (not Sick Care)
advice, counsel and information in the world, right there in the
confines of your own home.
Don’t take my word, check it out for yourself. Visit:
www.GodsAnswer2Cancer.com
·
Are you married, have you ever been
married, etc? Kids? Pets?
Yes! I’m approaching my 32nd Anniversary with my dearest
wife, Ella; I have two darling dear daughters, Lynette approaching her
28th birthday, she is a graduate of University of Tennessee
at Chattanooga and Kimberly, 24, a graduate of Middle Tennessee State
University. I have two darling dear granddaughters by Lynette, Jailyn,
almost 6 years old and Bria 3 years old.
·
Where do you see yourself in five
years?
I’ll be opening The great Physician’s Wellness Center in
Jacksonville Florida this fall; in five years,
I truly believe that I’ll be overseeing 15 to 20 Great Physician’s
Wellness Centers throughout the South East portions of The United
States of America.
·
How would you like to see this
organization grow, change or expand? How would you like to see medical
and alternative health in this country grow, change or etc.
I would like to see a great deal of value placed upon a “CHEO”
Membership card. I would like to see people lining up to join CHEO
because of the outstanding benefits that they would be entitled to
receive. I would like to see all of us in CHEO operating as one
organism, sharing and referring clients back and forth between each
other. I would like to see “alternative health” becoming our primary
and not secondary approach to achieving wellness. Allopathic Sick
Care does not work. The general public must be informed! We can
achieve this only by contrasting Health Care vs Sick Care.
·
What services do you offer?
Utilizing my Virtual
Wellness Center, I am offering my lifetime of experiences coupled with
a million dollar library in the completion of “Road-Maps to Wellness"
for all major conditions that we here in America have labeled as
diseases. These Road-Maps to Wellness are put onto CD and mailed to
requestees.
·
Do you feel what you provide is
holistic health care, alternative health care, complementary health
care services or do you care what it’s labeled?
Each of these labels have some negative connotations. A much more
relevant name would be Wholistic Health Care. This denotes the Whole
person; the term “holistic” has New Age Spiritual Aspects.
·
What do you think the publics’
perception about holistic health is?
I think, I was about to approach the subject in the last question.
The general public must be educated to understand that they must play
a part in facilitating their own wellness. Our sick care system
places the burden of achieving wellness on the shoulders of the
Doctors and the Pharmacist. The public has been educated to think
that all they have to do is to follow every “and, the, and but” that
comes from the mouth of their doctor.
·
What is the one thing you want the
public to understand about your services that you feel
they don’t? I am the only Wellness Coach in the world
that offers my Wellness Coaching Services absolutely FREE!
·
Currently holistic health is:
Considered over the edge, misunderstood and the classic demon
as defined by traditional allopathic drug medication and disease
management. This image must
be changed!

Q & A
with Natalie:
What brought you to Alternative Health and the field/product you’re
involved with?
I
worked in a health food store in Indianapolis in the mid-90s. One of
my co-workers convinced me that I needed to go to a chiropractor for
my health, even though I didn't have any problems or pains. On my
first visit, the chiropractor explained that the Central Nervous
System (CNS) coordinates all the functions of the body and that
misalignments of the spine can negatively affect communication between
the CNS and the body. Adjustments help to keep that communication
pathway open for a higher level of function and optimum health. That
made so much sense to me, I wondered why no one had told me that
before! By the second or third visit, I had a clear sense, really a
calling, that I was supposed to be a chiropractor. Along the path to
becoming a chiropractor, I had heard of CranioSacral Therapy and was
intrigued by that, as well.
Are you married,
have you ever been married, etc? Kids? Pets?
I am married to
Timo O'Donnell. We've been together since 2003 and married on
08/08/08. We don't plan to have kids, but we do enjoy our 4 cats and 2
seventy pound mutts! One is a coon hound mix and the other is a Chow
mix.
Where are you
from? How long in the Greater Chattanooga area?
I'm originally
from Poughkeepsie, NY and most of my immediate family still lives in
that area. I've moved around a lot and have lived in North Carolina,
Massachusetts, New Mexico, Indiana and South Carolina. My husband (who
is from Pennsylvania) and I moved to Knoxville in 2007 with every
intention of spending the rest of our lives here!
What do you like
to do in your spare time? What do you do for fun?
I keep pretty
busy, but when I do have some spare time, I like to read, garden, walk
our dogs and spend time with friends, especially my husband, Timo
O'Donnell. Timo and I both enjoy travel and photography, so we try to
plan trips to places where we can take cool photos. I also like to
crochet and usually fit that in while I'm a passenger in the car or
during meetings. You may have even seen me crochet during CHEO
meetings - I promise I'm paying attention, even if my hands are busy!
So tell me
about how you got started in your work?
My first office
was in Spartanburg, SC. I practiced there for 2 years while Timo
finished school and we figured out where we wanted to live. We spent
one full year talking about what sort of place we wanted to live in
and visiting various cities. Eventually, Knoxville rose to the top. We
moved here in 2007 and then I spent another 6 months or more figuring
out where in Knoxville I should practice. I discovered Gypsy Hands
Healing Arts Center through one of their ads in Metropulse. I
opened my practice as an independent contractor there in 2008 and I've
been loving it ever since! It's a phenomenal community of healers
practicing deep tissue bodywork, Reiki and veterinary acupuncture. We
even have Reiki training and bellydance classes.
How would you
describe your studio to someone?
My adjusting room
doesn't look like most chiropractic
offices - it's very colorful with huge windows, lots of plants and two
adjusting tables. The room where I do CranioSacral Therapy is much
more cocoon-like. There are no windows and I keep the lighting low to
encourage clients to relax and even go to sleep during the session. I
spend a lot of time with my clients and for the most part, even with
my chiropractic clients, it's one-on-one time. I do have two adjusting
tables, so there is a chance that two people who don't know each other
will be getting adjusted at the same time, but mostly it's friends and
family members who come in together to get adjusted. From the moment
people walk in the door, they can usually tell there's something
special about this healing arts center. The energy is so peaceful and
calming that we have some clients who come in early or stay after
their session to just relax with a cup of tea or maybe read one of the
hundreds of books we have.
What services do you offer?
I offer chiropractic care and
CranioSacral Therapy (CST). I see everyone from newborns to the
elderly - we all need a nervous system free of interference,
regardless of our state of health! I think chiropractic care and CST
blend together really well. They are both focused on removing
interference from the body and allowing the body to return to its
natural state of health and well-being. CST addresses tissue
restriction anywhere in the body, from the dural membrane over the
brain and spinal cord to fascia over the muscles, or even tissue in a
specific organ. It can even address restriction around the Cranial
Nerves. I've worked with newborns suffering from colic and
octogenarians with joint problems, but I also see clients who come in
because my services help reduce their anxiety or because they have
really cool spiritual experiences during their sessions. I've had
clients send me poetry that they wrote after a session and others
report visions of art that they later create.
What is the one thing you want the
public to understand about your services that you feel they don’t?
Most people think they don't need to go to a chiropractor unless they
are in pain, but that's like waiting till you have a cavity to go to
the dentist. Chiropractic and CranioSacral Therapy are things that you
can do for yourself to maintain good health and prevent health issues
from becoming a problem. My clients who come in "just to check it out"
are amazed at the sense of well-being they can attain on all levels -
physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. It's really pretty
incredible how good we can feel and what we can do when we lower our
stress level and allow inspiration to come to us!

April 2010 CHEO Spotlight:
Tami Freedman, CHEO Web,
Newsletter,
and CHEO Chattanooga President 2007, 2009

What brought you
to Alternative Health and the field/product you’re involved with? In
1983, I had a softball injury that required surgery and they put me on
a very strong antibiotic. From that point forward, I suffered with
brain fog, low energy and was ultimately diagnosed with Chronic
Fatigue. In 1988, I was diagnosed with systemic Yeast Syndrome (candida
albicans). In 2002, holistic health began the long path of returning
me to health.
Tell us about
yourself in 60 words or less:
I care. Care about people. Care about animals. Care about our planet.
Where are you
from? How long in the Greater Chattanooga area?
With
parents in the Air Force, I was born in West Point, New York. Lived in
over 6 places by age 6. Lived in Hawaii for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade.
Then when my father retired from the AF, being Adventists, we settled
in Collegedale TN so my sister could attend college.
If you had three
wishes, what would they be in order of importance?
1) Sanity at the top of world government and
leadership.
2) Kindness to animals and all living things.
3) Years of my life back that I lost to chronic fatigue, and my dog
Bubby (and other loved ones) returned to me..
Are you married, have you ever been married, etc? Kids? Pets?
Chronic fatigue took quite a bit of my
adult life, leaving me without energy and not feeling I should commit
to marriage. I have 2 wonderful nieces and 7 wonderful grand-nieces
and nephew who I adore. I had a dog/son Bubby for over 16 years. And
in the neighborhood where I live, the tough economy has caused people
to dump cats, and given that I feed any hungry anything that shows
up... I now feed over 15 cats, all named and loved!
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Tending my pet babies, working, living in the country on a farm or
larger acreage, happy.
How would you like to see CHEO grow,
change or expand? How would you like to see medical and alternative
health in this country grow, change or etc.
I'd like to see a national network of CHEO type
organizations who link together and work together for the common good.
I'd like to see medical doctors wake up and expand their practices to
include holistic modalities, and I'd like to see holistic health get
smarter and do better at educating the public, media, doctors and make
inroads at a govt. level toward better health for the public.
Do you feel what you provide is holistic health care, alternative
health care, complementary health care services or do you care what
it’s labeled?
Labels - that's
fun! When I started with CHEO in 2006, a practitioner said that
people kept asking her about Complementary Health - did that mean it
was free. So I leaned toward calling what this Alternative Health.
Recently, I've concluded that since we SHOULD be mainstream, I prefer
to call our vast umbrella Holistic Health.
What are 5 things you think the
public needs to know about holistic health but doesn’t?
1) That Integrative Doctors can provide the best of both worlds!
2) That the government, CDC, FDA, etc lies and there is massive fraud
at the very top of much of traditional medicine in this country.
3) That they should look at their body as their ONE life - and take
better care of it.
4) That putting a little money out of their pocket for ongoing
holistic services is so worth it!
4b) That they're taking their perfectly healthy infants in to doctors,
born perfect, and getting them
vaccinated with toxins that lead to massive
increases in the levels of children with ADHD, Allergies, Asthma,
Autism, Cancer, Diabetes, SIDS....
4c) That AUTISM IS TREATABLE!! (nutrition,
detoxification, chelation, energy medicine is invaluable and is
returning these kids back to the normal
range!)
4d) That vaccines are optional. Every state allows medical exemptions
(tough to get). 49
have
ReligiousExemptions
(including TN & GA, click to download).
And 18 provide for Philosophical Exemptions (just say no).
5a) That "HOLISTIC" and "GREEN" are interrelated and need to work
together! The toxins making people sick
are the same ones making the planet sick - and
those poisoning people are the same ones poisoning earth.
5) How very incredible almost every Holistic Health modality and
practitioner is!
Fill in the blank. 5 years ago
holistic health was: Not that
prevalent. 15 years ago, I believed the spin that chiropractors were
quacks. Thought of massage parlors when I heard massage, hadn't heard
of Reiki or Reflexology... and didn't consider my diet to be anything
but a weight issue - nothing to do with my health.
Currently holistic health is:
Getting more mainstream. Quite
impressed with the huge healthy supermarkets, and the amount of
knowledge that's becoming mainstream.
In 10 years holistic health will be:
I believe that unfettered,
holistic health would force the doctors to move away from the germ
theory and toward ENERGY MEDICINE and completely mainstream. (no more
alternative).
What is the most remarkable thing
you’ve seen in holistic health? Inspirational story:
I've seen so many incredible things.
Terry Jeanne, local acupuncturist, getting my mom out of pain. Rev.
Lois Slater, an 82-year-young Knoxville healer, healing my mom's
painfully broken bone over night via a phone call. (Lois has been
healing since she was 3 years old, a natural healer, she doesn't
charge money, her phone is 865-453-8556).
And then
there's Trace Minerals and Herbal Repair...
LIQUID TRACE MINERALS
FOR EVERYTHING from ARTHRITIS to natural FLEA-ZAPPER to...
…about six
years ago, I hurt my right knee playing racquetball. For six months my
injured knee hurt going down stairs. Being in CHEO, someone told me
any injury area needs extra nutrients to heal. They said to buy liquid
trace minerals, and apply them externally. Put a quarter size amount
of liquid in your palm and massage in every day for two weeks. I did
and WOW!!!!! Within two weeks the hurt knee felt stronger than the
other knee and I’ve done stairs for years now without pain. After a
bike accident in 2010, my left knee swelled up to twice its size and
hurt so bad I couldn't sleep. Trace Minerals 6 times in two days and
my knee was strong, didn't hurt and felt great!!!

 |
Buy these at most local health food
stores:
(and while you can
also follow the instructions and add
to water, its even more amazing applied externally!)
ConcenTrac Liquid Trace Minerals
8 oz. approx. $25 at any health food store
(better for folks with heart or blood pressure issues
since it's very low sodium)
Utah Sea Minerals
16 oz. approx. $10
(I apply this to myself,
and my animals!) |

|
In 2008, my
dog Bubby, 15˝ years old, struggled. I couldn’t get nutrients into
him, so I slathered liquid Trace Minerals all over his body. It helped
AND it eliminated his FLEAS!! This summer, I put Utah Sea Minerals on
my new dog, Scooby (every two weeks on his neck/down spine). It
Works, No Fleas!! Plus Borax powder on carpet, after 15 minutes,
vacuum, to kill flea eggs, stopping all flea problems.
This spring, a friend told me about his bad knee. I sent him to buy
Utah Sea Minerals. A week later he hugged me and said: “My knees thank
you!!!” Two months later he showed me how his arthritic hands were
now almost normal.
(People living near the ocean have very little arthritis).
This year I’ve
finally gotten smart. A few months ago I started DAILY (after my
shower) “slathering” liquid trace minerals externally over my heart,
thyroid, kidneys, liver, gut, pancreas… I seem to be losing weight
(less hungry). My kidneys appreciate it - I’m losing the edema
around my ankles. My joints all seem to work better.
And then I started getting even smarter! I'd read in Ed Jones'
Nutrition World that the average American woman adds 5 lbs of toxins
to her body yearly with lotions, shampoos, makeups, etc. My ongoing
goal is to add only healthy nutrients externally. When I realized my
skin needed more moisture, I started applying Organic Walnut Oil
(great for the liver), Cold-Pressed Sesame Oil (great for the
kidneys), and other "cooking" oils instead of petroleum-based lotions.
It's been amazing for my health.
HERBAL REPAIR...For Amazing Health and the CRISES in our Lives!
Herbal Repair...infusing
massive levels of healing nutrients into the body quickly. Herbal Repair...any
injury area, organ or body system needs extra nutrients to heal
(mega-dosing). Herbal Repair...significant
improvement in minutes not months.
My favorite "Herbal Repair" story...my niece Melissa Jones
My niece Melissa started working at
Waffle House at age 15. She's an amazing waitress. She weighed under 100
lbs her teens and beyond. At 20 she got married, got pregnant, gained 100
lbs. She gave birth and didn't lose any weight. She tried dieting and didn't
lose weight. She didn't eat much and didn't lose weight. Then she started
having massive abdominal pain and couldn't get through her Waffle House
shift. Three times she was forced to leave work, go to the E.R. and seek an
answer to debilitating pain. Not knowing much about anatomy, she told the
physicians that her kidneys hurt. They put dye in her and ran scans.
Nothing.
After the fourth E.R.
visit, they told her the next answer was to do exploratory surgery to see
if a kidney stone perhaps was in the kidneys but at the lip of the tube,
and might be blocking the tube
causing pain. After this surgery, the surgical doctor called her primary
doctor and told him she must be psychosomatic.
Nothing was wrong with her.
When they started to
treat her for mental illness, my mom (Melissa's grandmom) got involved.
She knew Melissa wasn't crazy. Melissa is one of the hardest working gals
around. Mom got Melissa's handwriting and took it to an Herbal Repair
practitioner for assessment. The woman called Mom the next day and said,
"No wonder she's in pain, her liver is filled with strep." Plus any
time the liver is clogged the person probably can't lose weight.
Two days later, my
parents and I did a Herbal Repair footsoak on Melissa.
Two days after that,
Melissa reported that all pain was gone. Over the following 30 days,
Melissa lost 30 pounds spontaneously without doing any change to her diet
or routine. Over the next 5 months, Melissa lost an additional 50 pounds.
MELISSA & BLOOD PRESSURE (BP)
-- Several years
after this, Melissa was experiencing high blood pressure. Doctors
put her on 3 different BP medications. She went to a practitioner for an
Herbal Repair session. The next day she took her BP meds and nearly passed
out. Going to the doctor he told her that her blood pressure was normal
and the meds she took had gotten her BP too low.
The doctor removed from her all blood pressure meds. Melissa remains off
them to this day -- after ONE Herbal Repair session.
And I have my
own LYMES Disease story of healing with one Herbal Repair session...

Dale
and Lauren Smithandrews founded Mountain Harmony Wellness near
Madisonville, Tennessee following their 2005 move from Ohio. They see
clients and offer a variety of classes, recently expanding classes to
Maryville at All Is Well Healing Center and Athens at Apple Tree
Health Foods.
Dale
and Lauren had been complementary health practitioners with their own
practices since the mid-1990’s. Following their marriage in 2004,
they combined their practices and continued treating clients and
teaching Reiki classes.
Dale
and Lauren are both Reiki Master Teachers. Dale is also a
Holistic
Life Coach helping clients uncover and release issues and triggers
that hold them back in life. He is certified by the Holistic Healing
Institute.
Lauren
is also a certified SomaEnergetics Sound Therapy practitioner using
the Solfeggio Tuning Forks; a certified Vibrational Healer using
sound, light, color and crystals, and doing Past Life Regressions;
and, a Pranic Healer using light and color energies in the healing
process.
The
Ohio ice storm of 2004 just before Christmas left them without power
and water for 7 days and had them wondering why they were in Ohio when
neither of them liked cold weather. But how to decide where to move?
Out came the pendulums and a map of the United States and by a process
of elimination the area north of Madisonville was the result.
Coming
from a huge metaphysical community, they weren’t sure what to expect
in a rural, conservative, Bible Belt area, but they soon eased into an
unexpectedly large healing and metaphysical community in their new
Tennessee home and found that that complementary healing practices
were not unfamiliar. Many complementary healing techniques have been
used for generations and a number of churches have a hands-on healing
tradition similar to energy healing practices.
Mountain Harmony Wellness began offering Reiki Level 1 and 2 classes
through flyers posted in Madisonville and the students came. The
range of classes has expanded to include Reiki Level 3, the
Master Teacher Level, Energize Yourself! which teaches about
the meridians, Meditation Your Way about ways to
meditate in addition to emptying your mind, Honor Your Boundaries
about honoring yourself first while still respecting others and Let
Go of Anger about being gentle with yourself and others by
learning to let go of the real causes of anger, and other classes.
Lauren
and Dale’s philosophy has always been to keep their fees low so
everyone who wants to can afford the classes they teach. They also
offer scholarships and will barter. Especially in these times, they
understand that a “small” amount of money may be a budget item, not
just pocket change and they don’t want anyone not to be able to attend
a class. Dale and Lauren will teach classes wherever the students are
if they can gather at least 4 participants.
In
2008, Lauren and Dale installed a seven circle Classic Labyrinth on
their property. It is open to the public during daylight hours.
Individuals and groups are welcome to come to walk, dance or meditate
their way into the center and back out again. This year they plan to
build a meditation pergola next to the labyrinth.

Q and A with Sue:
What brought you to Alternative Health and the
field/product you’re involved with?
Like many people in
Alternative Health, I was brought to the field by a serious personal
health challenge that left me disabled for some time. When
conventional medicine was unable to help, I realized that I needed to
learn how to be my own healer and advocate. I was luckier than most
in that I had already been on the faculty of the University of South
Florida Medical School for many years, and had been part of a
teaching/training team in a teaching hospital for almost two decades,
so I was educated. Still, if I could not easily find people who could
diagnose and treat me, it was clear that others were even more
unprepared to face similar health challenges without support.
So tell me about how you got started in your work?
I started as a
clinical psychologist (Ph.D., UTK), working in the conventional
medical arena, but always had an interest in the spiritual and
metaphysical. Though trained as a scientist/practitioner, my later
study of comparative religions familiarized me with spiritual
practices used to maintain and restore health. My own health
challenge led to retirement from the practice of psychology,
eventually beginning work as a Life Guide Coach, and then on to
certification as a Certified Eden Energy Medicine Practitioner.
What do you like to do in your spare time? What do you
do for fun?
I love to travel,
be it locally or internationally. I also love photography, reading,
teaching, organic gardening, spending time with friends, and learning
new healing skills.
Are you married, have you ever been married, etc? Kids? Pets?
I’ve been married
for 19 years, and all of our children have four feet. One of our
rescue cats was brought back from the edge of death by using Energy
Medicine for animals. Some day we hope to find another dog as well.
This Spring, we’ll start keeping a few hens for organic eggs. And we
have many wild birds, bees and butterflies that are supported in our
wildlife-friendly habitat.
What services do you offer?
Eden Energy
Medicine uses 9 basic energy systems to balance and harmonize your
body’s own innate healing abilities. It integrates practices from
many cultures, going back 5000 years. Meridians and chakras are
probably the energy systems best known to most people. All the
practices work with what other cultures respectively call chi, qi, or
prana—words that all refer to our life energy.
I teach classes and study groups on
Introductory Energy Medicine, Energy Medicine for Women, and the
Energies of Love. Classes or study groups may be arranged by
contacting me at
sue.gridley@gmail.com
with the key words Energy Medicine in the subject line, or by visiting
my website
www.care4.org.
I also do
individual Energy Medicine sessions in northwest Georgia (about 30
minutes from Chattanooga) by referral or on approval after meeting or
talking with a client.
Do you feel what you provide is holistic health care, alternative
health care, complementary health care services or do you care what
it’s labeled?
What I provide is
all of those in that it supports natural healing. Energy Medicine
does not take the place of conventional medicine, but it can be an
integral part of a person’s overall health practice. Energy Healing
is the oldest, safest form of healing on Earth.
What advice do you have for people looking to get into
your field of practice?
Do your research
about what options are available to you in this burgeoning field. Find
a course of study that fits you. Take a class or study group with me.
My search brought me to Eden Energy Medicine (www.innersource.net).
Realize that you will need to devote time and money to successfully
complete an organized, accredited course of study. Then follow your
bliss.
What is the most remarkable thing you’ve seen in your
business? Inspirational story:
When I was in the
second year of the certification program for Eden Energy Medicine, I
met a friend at the beach after a week of classes. While
demonstrating a session on her, I found that Kidney meridian was out
of harmony. When I told her, she said she wasn’t going to mention it,
but she had recently been found to have nodules on her kidney and was
to have a biopsy the next week. We only had one session, but I
unblocked the energy flow in Kidney meridian and balanced her other
energies, and when she went back for the biopsy, the new diagnostic
test showed no evidence of nodules. She needed no further treatment.
That was one of the first times I confirmed what I do by finding a
previously diagnosed medical condition, using EM to help it, and then
having a conventional medical test verify that the problem was
resolved.
What is the one thing you want the public to understand
about your services
that you feel they don’t?
Everyone can learn
to use energy to create balance and harmony. A qualified practitioner
can not
only work ON you, but work WITH you to teach you how to do
simple routines that will keep your energies flowing.
....if
you ask an impertinent question, you are on the way to a pertinent
answer.

Paula Tate comes from a long line of educators, which may be the
reason why she decided to pursue a landscaping degree at UT!
Fortunately for our community, after spending several years in Germany
and taking a teaching position there, (she went for three months and
stayed for two years) she decided “not to fight the genetics,” came
home and was convinced that education was, in fact, her calling.
Paula’s mom, LouL,
founded Tate’s
School of
Discovery some 40 years ago, and her dad is a lifetime educator,
having been principal at both Cedar Bluff Middle and Ball Camp
Elementary schools.
When Paula returned to the states, she began a 15-year teaching
career in
Knox
County.
She was nominated as a Walt Disney Teacher of the Year while she was
at Gibbs Elementary School. Like her parents, Paula took a great
interest in the role that a child’s well-being played in their ability
to learn. Her passion led her to research programs that incorporated
health and wellness into learning. She discovered, and became
certified in, the L.E.A.N Start Program, founded by Dr. William
Sears, “America’s Pediatrician.” L.E.A.N is an acronym which
stands for lifestyle, exercise, attitude and nutrition.
As well as being certified to train adults she has begun to educate
children using “Nutrition Detectives”. It is an
interactive, practical and exciting nutritional education program
designed specifically for elementary school children. The “Nutrition
Detectives” classes, sponsored by Juice Plus, are the brain
child of Dr. David Katz. Dr. Katz is best known as the founder of The
Yale Prevention Research Center at the Yale School of Medicine, and as
the medical columnist for O Magazine.
Beginning in
January, classes will be available
to the wider community.
Paula is teaming up
with Paula Pavelka, RN to offer the L.E.A.N. Start Program to
other groups. Certified in the program, the “two Paula’s” will be
available to meet with parent groups, church groups, physicians or
even corporate groups to teach them what a great impact a
well-balanced and healthy lifestyle can have on the learning of even
the youngest of children.
