Q & A with Dr Prevent:

What brought you to Alternative Health and the field / product you’re involved with?

  1. Well, between ages 8 to 15, I had the experience of watching my father dwindle and die due to scleroderma.
  2. Later, as a practicing physician, I began to 'inventory': How well are doing or not doing with our current regimens for treating heart disease?
  3. Are there better answers/therapies for our current known treatment modalities, and
  4. Are there underlying / unrecognized causes for our common and/or uncommon health challenges?

So, short answer: Experience (# 1 & 2) and a desire to make it better (# 3 & 4). Just as a woman will deny, cling to, and stay in an abusive relationship, so will medicine cling to therapies

Tell us about yourself in 60 words or less: The primary word is "LUCKY!" Lucky to have a great wife and family, lucky to have the opportunity to practice medicine, lucky to practice medicine in a patient friendly state such as Georgia, lucky to know the folks I know.

My job is to keep patients healthy and away from people like me. In our practice we try to use the best of all available modalities to test, diagnose, and treat health challenges.

Where are you from? How long in the Greater Chattanooga area? Born in Louisville, KY when my father was in medical school. My mother is from Huntland, TN, so that and my mentally retarded sister and the wonderful institution, Orange Grove, inspired my Mom & Dad to settle here in Chattanooga in the mid -50's. My class led the last parade at Baylor School as it ended its military program. Went to college @ Emory & Henry and later, medical school @ UT in Memphis, and then Internal Medicine residency @ Erlanger Hospital.

If you had three wishes, what would they be in order of importance? I wish we could all work together for "Win-Win" - be it politics, economics, or personal.

What do you like to do in your spare time? What do you do for fun? Fishing & hunting = spare time / relaxation.

I have fun poking them that are stuck on the past and unwilling to look at possibilities for improving the present and future.

Are you married, have you ever been married, etc? Kids? Pets? Currently living with my girl friend who also happens to be my wife of 27 years. We have 3 children, a son and 2 daughters, all of whom are @ UT in Knoxville. Presently, we have one dog.

If you’re not in alternative health full time, what kind of work do you do? I "work" with CHEO, and Baylor School, and Tennesseans for Health Care Freedom, and running a medical practice, and the REAL work is spending time with "Satan's time sucking assistant" --> the computer!

Where do you see yourself in five years? In an integrative medical center with a whole passle of integrative practitioners.

How would you like to see this organization grow, change or expand? How would you like to see medical and alternative health in this country grow, change or etc. It is a real privilege to be a part of this group. It is marvelous and mind boggling to watch folks step up and help to keep it going and growing. Perhaps getting more of the medical practitioners involved would be great - maybe try to get some conventions such as ACAM, Life Extension, IAOMT...?

What are you most proud of in your life? I try to watch this because they say pride comes before the fall!!!

It was a really, neat, totally blind-sided honor to be named the CHEO practitioner of the year! Never saw it coming!
